Movie: The Town

Tagline: Welcome to the bank robbery capital of America.
Review: From the first fifteen minutes, you know you
e in for a gritty and realistic look at Charlestown and the violence beneath the painted picture of the city. This is the setting for an intense and emotionally gripping story set in Charlestown which is referred to by the locals as “The Town”. The story is nothing fresh and new but the way the film goes about it makes it a must see crime drama. It pits Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) in the hardest situation of his life when he falls for an emotionally distraught Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall), a bank manager at a local bank. The twist, which comes very early on, is that she was terrorized by MacRays brutal gang of thieves just days before meeting her. In hopes to assure that she has seen nothing, MacRay follows her and ends up comforting her which then in turn creates a very loving relationship between the two. Just when things are getting serious between the two, Jem Coughlin (Jeremy Renner) tells Doug that getting out will be hard and he will not let him turn his back on the town or his life of crime. This sets up the story.
The story is nothing fresh but what keeps it feeling fresh is the brilliant performances that go along with it. A real stand out performance is Blake Lively, who plays Krista Coughlin, a junkie drug mule and single mother. Her performance really cements her legitimacy as an actress and I fully expect great performances out of her in the future away from her Gossip Girl typecast. The other performances are top notch, including Jeremy Renner, who plays Jem, a sadistic and brutal street thug. His performance is so unnerving and unflinching that it reminds me very much of a new wave version of James Cagney. His performance is definitely one to be remembered. The rest of the cast is brilliant, including Affleck himself, who is bettering himself as an actor with every role that he (carefully) takes on.
The directing and writing in this film is nothing short of mesmerizing. The car chase sequence in the film is a very nice and tasteful throwback to The French Connection (1971). The action sequences are carried through with tough and gritty realism especially the shootouts. In most action films, nowadays, the violence is glorified and very violent. This film, while remaining violent takes on a different approach by not glorifying it and showing a character get shot repeatedly for three different angled shots. It is a breath of fresh air, literally. The script lends itself to the crisp and sassy dialog with the Boston area lingo. The films directing and writing is the real shining star in this sky.
Overall, The Town is rough and brutal but necessary. It features an extremely solid sophomore directorial job on behalf of Ben Affleck, who in turn directed himself to giving one of his finest performances as the conflicted Doug MacRay. This is a film to be remembered due to its realistic and almost voyeuristic take on the lives of thieves and the risks that they take to make sure that the score is worth the stakes. I highly recommend The Town to anyone. I will not bog down anyone with comparisons to other films because this is a film that stands on its own two feet and for that, I say “bravo”.
I agree with you on The Town – the first half hour of it was great, actually. tailed off a bit towards end but still a way better film than it should have been
You will literally be watching The Town in no time at all should you just take advantage of this site. Here is what is probably the most component about this site rather than all of the others. Then, if you will be lucky enough to even find a place that says you are able to definitely watch The Town or watch The Town, you might be heading to acquire one thing that looks like it was filmed with an iPhone…by somebody with Parkinsons. Now, I know you may also be asking if you happen to be heading to have to become some pc genius to be able to not only watch the movie, but then burn it to a DVD. Do not have a DVD burner? No problem. Obivously I’m talking in future tense just to prove a point, as I already watched the movie. They aren’t going to charge you for every movie you want to watch, that is certainly great, simply because I’m also certain that The Town just isn’t going to be the only movie you will be ever heading to need to see. The Town combines parts of Pocahontas and Braveheart by using a liberal dose of Room Marines into an epic entire that requires almost 3 complete hours to unfold. We could criticise that length, the weak story as well as the hammy dialogue. We could attack its thinly-veiled ecological message or even the frankly bizarre spirituality in its second 50 percent but honestly practically nothing can spoil the encounter when you happen to be enveloped in it. Along with a great portion of that could be down to your brilliant use of 3D – which can be both subtle and exceptionally powerful. Til now, we happen to be producing films with 3D factors, Avatar often is the very first undeniably 3D movie and may well properly prove that need be 1 for this most substantial items to come about to blockbuster film-making because The Town.

The two great things about The Town are the feel and the acting. When I say feel I am referring to everything from the costumes and makeup all the way to the photography combining to capture the look of the time perfectly. The soundtrack is also pretty good too as you would expect!

I thought The Town was interesting, it was a new type of horror movie, and a smart one as well. After that it all went downhill. I saw 3 movies too many. Now I refuse to even watch this movie again, but, apparently there are still people out there that can enjoy a movie like this and I am glad they can.
This film was absolutely phenomenal. Already seen it three times. Loved the comics and this was the most satisfying adaptation I’ve ever seen mixed with the directors personal charm and tweaks. The Town was just beautiful to watch and so fun to be a part of as an audience. LOVED IT.
The Town is a genuinely great movie– disappointing summer aside. It’s more refreshing, perhaps, due to the fact that this season has been so stark, but The Town easily deserves praise all on its own merits rather than by lack of good competition.
The video is worth it to view. the movie is so refreshing. It’s a strangely paced show and suffers at times from surprisingly long exposition and poorly contrived story lines that seem to be added to no doubt develop the storyline rather than the film story that I wanted to see.

The movie flick is worth it to view. the flick is so awesome. It’s a curiously paced film and suffers at times from tremendously long exposition and poorly contrived story lines that seem to be added to no doubt cultivate the storyline rather than the movie story that I wanted to see.
